2026 Base Bridge Guide for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana

Bitcoiner's Guide

// Bitcoiner's Guide
TL;DR: The official bridge at bridge.base.org has been deprecated. Base now recommends specific routes depending on where your assets are. For Bitcoin, that route is Garden. This guide covers every officially recommended path to Base and how to use each one.

If you searched for "bridge.base.org" you would be redirected to Base official docs, you're not alone. Base retired its native bridge and replaced it with a set of recommended routes in the official documentation. The right one depends on where your assets sit today.

Choose your route

Base docs break it down by source chain. This table below is taken from Bridge to Base section from Base official docs

Coming from Recommended route Typical assets
A Coinbase account Withdraw directly to Base (no bridge) ETH, USDC, cbBTC
Ethereum (L1) Superbridge or Brid.gg ETH, ERC-20s
Solana Base–Solana bridge SOL, SPL tokens
Bitcoin Garden BTC → cbBTC, USDC, ETH

From Bitcoin

This is the route Base docs point to Garden for. Native BTC goes in, cbBTC, ETH, USDC lands on Base, and the whole thing settles in seconds. No wrapped intermediate, no custodian holding your coins along the way.

Garden runs on atomic swaps using Hashed Time-Locked Contracts. You lock BTC, a solver locks cbBTC/other on Base, and the swap completes when you redeem. If anything fails, your BTC refunds automatically.

Garden is also listed on Coinbase's cbBTC ecosystem page as the bridge for moving Bitcoin across chains. Between the Base docs listing and the Coinbase listing, this is the most vetted path from native Bitcoin to Base. Head to the BTC to Base route for a full walkthrough.

From Ethereum

Base recommends Superbridge and Brid.gg for ETH and ERC-20s from Ethereum mainnet. Both use the standard Optimism bridge contracts, which means deposits are fast, but withdrawals back to Ethereum carry a seven day challenge period.

If you'd rather skip that wait or already use Garden for Bitcoin, Garden also supports ETH, USDT, WBTC, DAI, and cbBTC from Ethereum to Base. Swaps settle in seconds, no challenge period.

From Solana

Base runs its own Base-Solana bridge for SOL and SPL tokens. It supports bidirectional transfers and cross-chain messaging. Full details are in the Base-Solana bridge docs.

Garden also covers SOL, USDC, USDT, and cbBTC from Solana to Base if you want one interface for all your routes.

From a Coinbase account

No bridge needed. Select Base as the network when withdrawing and your ETH, USDC, or BTC lands on Base directly. BTC converts to cbBTC automatically. This is the fastest path if your funds are already on Coinbase.

What is cbBTC

cbBTC is Coinbase Wrapped Bitcoin. Each token is backed 1:1 by BTC held in Coinbase custody, with public proof of reserves you can verify onchain. It's live on Base, Ethereum, Solana, and Arbitrum.

On Base, cbBTC plugs into Aave, Morpho, Aerodrome, Moonwell, and most major defi apps. Coinbase customers can unwrap it back to BTC by depositing into their account. Everyone else can swap it back to native BTC through Garden.

FAQs

What happened to bridge.base.org?

Base deprecated its native bridge. The official docs now recommend Superbridge or Brid.gg for Ethereum, the official Base-Solana bridge for Solana, and Garden for Bitcoin.

Is there an official Base bridge?

Not a single one anymore. Base publishes a list of recommended routes by source chain. Garden is the recommended route for Bitcoin.

How do I bridge Bitcoin to Base?

Open Garden, connect your Bitcoin and Base wallets, choose BTC as source and cbBTC on Base as destination, and swap.

How do I bridge ETH to Base?

Superbridge and Brid.gg are the Base-recommended options. Garden also supports ETH to Base with no withdrawal delay.

How long does bridging to Base take?

Bitcoin to Base on Garden takes around 10 minutes, while the way back takes under 30 seconds. Ethereum to Base via the standard bridge takes a few minutes for deposits and seven days for withdrawals. Garden settles both directions in seconds.

Can I bridge cbBTC back to native Bitcoin?

Yes. Garden supports cbBTC on Base to native BTC in the same 30-second flow.
